At the Creative Backyard Playspaces workshop, participants will learn why kids need free play time in natural spaces and discover how to enrich the natural qualities of their own backyards. Design and implementation of small scale residential projects will be covered and plenty of examples of creative playspaces will be shared. Outdoor "test" playtime will be included!

The instructors for this workshop will be Sandra Koike and Erin Lamb. Sandra, an environmental educator and landscape designer, works with the Camas Educational Network in promoting sustainability education by engaging students in schoolyard habitat restoration. Sandra investigated sustainable schoolyards in Kyoto and the western U.S. as part of her master's research in landscape architecture at the UO. Her research emphasized ways that together, education and design can further cultural lessons in sustainability. Erin Lamb, one of Nearby Nature's Alton Baker Park Hosts, is an avid gardener, landscaper, parent, and teacher.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The workshop costs $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Limited work trades are available. To register or for more information, call 541-687-9699 or click here for a registration form.
