Nature Guide

Responsibilities:

Lead morning nature walks (9-11:45 am) and occasional afternoon activities (noon-2 pm) for school kids in Alton Baker Park from late April through mid-June. Exact intern hours and specific days are flexible.
Assist with administrative tasks and program development as needed

Training: Training sessions cover natural history, teaching skills, and safety. Training sessions are offered on both weekday mornings and weekends for scheduling flexibility. Interns must attend scheduled training sessions.

Critter Quest Pond Study Station Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Staff our pond study station during nature walks (9am-noon)
  • Set up and take down equipment
  • Explain pond study guidelines to groups of 15-25 kids
  • Assist with macroinvertebrate identification
  • Maintian a safe environment
  • Exact days are flexible
  • Help with pond study during afternoon programs if available
  • Help with administrative tasks and program development

Training:

  • Required training sessions cover pond study, teaching skills, and safety.
  • Additional trainings for leading nature walks are also available.
  • Training sessions are offered on both weekday mornings and weekends for scheduling flexibility.
  • Interns must attend required sessions.

General Internship Information:

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with kids (K-5th)
  • Some background in the natural sciences
  • Interest in spending time outdoors, rain or shine!
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, passion

Credit Options: Credit can be arranged through individual professors, the UO Community Internship Program, the UO Career Development Center, UO Environmental Studies, the LCC Cooperative Education Program, or other area colleges.

Stipends: A limited number of internships with stipends are available spring, summer, and fall. These internships require a minimum commitment of nine hours per week for the term. Additional non-stipend internships are also available. Internships will remain open until filled. Send a cover letter and resume to:
