For some inspiring reading for anyone who cares about kids, check out Last Child in the Woods, by Richard Louv. This book, which basically lays out Nearby Nature’s mission, has been in the news quite a bit in the past couple of years. According to Louv, kids are simply not getting enough time outside these days, and are beginning to show signs of “nature deficit disorder.” It’s not too late to change how we raise kids, however, according to Louv, and his book has lots of sound advice. Another good related read is The Geography of Childhood: Why Children Need Wild Places, by Gary Paul Nabhan and Stephen Trimble. Learn more through the No Child Left Inside Coalition.
