DESCRIPTION:In this all outdoor preschool program\, children enjoy sensory adventures\, cooperative activities\, nature storytelling\, garden exploration\, Earth art\, and free time in our outdoor play spaces. Our Wonder Keepers develop a personal connection to the natural world\, make new friends\, and develop confidence through independent exploring. \nPrograms happen Monday\, Wednesday\, and Friday from 8:30 am-12:30 pm at our Learnscape in Alton Baker Park\, rain or shine\, for kids 3-5 years old. You may request to register your child for one\, two\, or three days a week (as space is available). Flexible drop off is between 8:30-9 am and flexible pick up is between 12-12:30 pm. \nSee complete details at Wonder Keepers. \nOur Spring 2025 season begins March 31. Online application for enrollment is ongoing. Once you apply\, we will contact you promptly to discuss whether or not our all outdoor\, all weather program is a good match for your child. DESCRIPTION:In honor of Earth Day\, Nearby Nature is partnering with SOLVE for an annual cleanup of Alton Baker Park. Join neighbors\, community organizations\, and local businesses as we pick up litter and remove invasive weeds to help ensure the park is clean and safe for everyone – all while enjoying a stroll in the park. Maybe you’ll see a great blue heron\, an osprey\, or a dragonfly! \nMeet on the lawn by the yurt at Nearby Nature’s site in Alton Baker Park. Nearby Nature will provide disposable gloves and tools. Volunteers should register in advance with SOLVE here\, bring a water bottle\, a snack\, and dress for the weather in closed-toe shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. Due to potential safety concerns related to kids and picking up trash\, we ask that all participants are 10 years of age or older and accompanied by an adult.

DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to be adding the Whilamut Natural Area to the 35th Annual Eugene Butterfly Count! Every year the Lane County Butterfly Club counts butterflies on one day (around the 4th of July) in several natural areas in a 5 mile radius of Eugene-Springfield. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain butterfly knowledge from an expert in the field and co-founder of Nearby Nature\, Sharon Blick! \nPlease join us on Saturday July 5th from 10am-3pm (timing will vary depending on the weather). Open to anyone interested in butterflies! Most appropriate for adults and mature youth. Please register so we can contact you if there is a delayed start due to cold or damp weather. \nWe will meet at Nearby Nature’s Discovery Lab (covered structure next to our yurt) in Alton Baker Park. Be prepared to walk 2-5 miles. DESCRIPTION:Join Nearby Nature for an Alton Baker Park Cleanup in partnership with SOLVE on Monday\, September 22\, from 9 am-12pm! At this park stewardship event\, we’ll be doing a litter patrol in the Whilamut Natural Area\, a lovely part of Alton Baker Park adjacent to the Willamette River bike path. As you caretake this in-town open space\, watch for herons fishing by the water\, osprey soaring in the sky\, signs of native busy beavers\, and more! \nMeet on the Water Wise Garden lawn in front of Nearby Nature’s Park Host Residence in Alton Baker Park. Nearby Nature will provide gloves\, trash bags\, and trash grabbers. Volunteers should register in advance with SOLVE\, bring a water bottle\, a snack\, and dress for the weather in closed-toe shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. Due to potential safety concerns related to kids picking up trash\, all participants must be 10 years of age or older and accompanied by an adult.
