Nature Walks and Learnscape Outdoor Adventures!

Want to spend more healthy time outdoors with your children or small group of students? Interested in learning about your animal and plant neighbors in local parks? Nearby Nature can help!

Kids who spend time outdoors are happy, healthy, and excited to learn. We invite you and your family/friends to join us for a small group guided nature walk/outdoor adventure in Alton Baker or Hendricks Park. 

The Basics:

REQUEST PROGRAM

WHAT: Interactive nature walk/adventure for your small family/friend/school group (topic options below)

WHERE: Alton Baker Park or Hendricks Park (Nature walks in other parks may be possible with enough time provided to scout the area and a supplemental preparation charge.)

WHO: Open to all ages, up to twelve people max (including at least one adult)

WHEN: Between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday-Friday (times vary with staff and program space availability)

HOW LONG: Up to 1 ½ hours

HOW MUCH: $50 per group. Scholarships available. Inquire when you request a program. See Payment and Cancellation policy below.

STAFF: Walks led by experienced staff and trained volunteer guides.

COVID-19 SAFETY: All program participants will be required to wear masks and we will all social distance as appropriate.

CONFIRMATION: Program date, scholarships, and prep instructions provided via email.

Topics:

  • Nature Detectives Walk – Use your wild-snooping senses and observation skills to find signs that plants and animals are stirring for spring! Make fascinating discoveries and solve interesting outdoor mysteries. If you have a topic or theme you would like us to focus on (for example, water, forests, wildlife, cycles, Kalapuya life and lore, etc.)  let us know! (Alton Baker or Hendricks Park)
  • Learnscape Adventure – Visit Nearby Nature’s Learnscape Outdoor Classroom. Enjoy garden activities in our Edible Classroom, supervised free play in the Nature’s Builder’s Playspace, storytelling in the Hazelnut Hollow, and more. (Note: These adventures can only happen on weekday mornings during the school year.) (Alton Baker Park only)

Payment and Cancellation Policies

Payment in full is due a week before your program. If this is not possible, please let us know via email so we can make other arrangements. Please call to make a credit card payment or send your check to: Nearby Nature, P.O. Box 3678, Eugene, OR 97403.

Nearby Nature’s outdoor programs are held RAIN OR SHINE. Please call 541-687-9699 or email info@nearbynature.org before the day of your visit if you need to change your reservation so we can try to reschedule rather than cancel your program. If there is an emergency on the day of your visit, call the program leader’s cell phone (this will be provided with your confirmation).

  • Cancellations more than two weeks in advance: Refund = 100% – $15 deposit
  • Cancellations two weeks-three days in advance: Refund = 50%
  • Cancellations less than three days in advance: No refund
