A Winter Weather Policy is new to us! So…our current policy as noted below is a “working” policy and we may need to make adjustments when actual weather happens. Please let us know if you have questions.
1) If there are significant cancellations of local public services due to snow/ice, dangerous roads, or other issues that make travel unsafe (for example, LTD Bus Service, local business, postal service closures, etc.), Nearby Nature will likely cancel its No School Day program. We will assess the situation and make a decision by 8 am about whether or not to cancel for the day. We will text and email you by 8 am with our conclusion.
2) Cold Temperatures and programs in Alton Baker Park: Baring a cancellation due to #1, because we have access to indoor heated space in our yurt for No School Days in Alton Baker Park, we will not cancel these programs due to low temperatures. Please be sure to dress your children for cold weather as appropriate.
3) Cold Temperatures and programs in Hendricks Park: Baring a cancellation due to #1, because we have access to a covered shelter with a fireplace for No School Days in Hendricks Park, we will not automatically cancel these programs due to low temperatures, but we will consider cancelling if the temperature is 15 degrees or lower at 7:30 am. We will assess the forecast for the rest of the day and make a decision by 8 am about whether or not to cancel. We will text and email you by 8 am with our conclusion. If we do not cancel, please be sure to dress your children for cold weather.
4) If we do cancel a No School Day due to unsafe Winter Weather, will offer the choice of a credit for future programs or refund of your program cost (minus your $15 non-refundable deposit or $5 for scholarship recipients).
